 Dr. Smith retired from HSU where he served as Dean of the College of Natural Resources and Science from 2010-2016.  Prior to that, he served as the Associate Dean for the College from 2001-2010. He is an HSU alum with a BS degree in Wildlife and an MA in Biology. Dr. Smith earned his Ph.D. at Texas A&M University where he studied the cytosystematics of a group of deer mice species in Mexico. Rick Zechman

Rick Zechman

Associate Dean

Rick Zechman is a graduate of Louisiana State University (Ph.D.), University of New Hampshire (M.S.) and University of North Carolina, Wilmington (B.S.). Following a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University, Rick was a Professor of Biology at Fresno State for 16 years, where he taught courses in botany, phylogenetics and evolution, and marine biology. In addition, Rick has taught field marine science courses at Shoals Marine Lab (Cornell University) for over 20 years.

Cortney Koors

Administrative Support Coordinator

Cortney is an HSU graduate, having received her B.S. in Biology. She has been working at HSU for 12 years. Most recently, she worked in the Psychology Department as the Graduate Coordinator, and previously provided administrative support and project coordination for Information Technology Services.  She has a range of skills including student support,  project management, website design and maintenance, budget management, schedule preparation, and faculty workload management.
